2006 Middle East Jeep Jamboree

For the third consecutive year, the Emirates Jeep Club founding members and marshals were chosen to lead the annual Middle East Jeep Jamboree as the official marshaling team and crew. Also assisting was Al Jallaf Jeep, a local dealership. Mr. Emil Khneiser (a rally driver and desert lover) led 16 marshals from the Emirates Jeep Club.

The 2006 event drew 144 Jeeps. Participants met at the Abu Dhabi International Exhibitions Centre in the morning, then headed out to Al Khatam, halfway between Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, and into the heart of the desert. The group enjoyed hitting the dunes and watching the experienced marshals defeat the dunes and kicking the sand with the ultimate Jeep beat and tempo. Along the way, participants enjoyed the scenery, the driving shows and camels in nearby farms. Since the event had many first-timers, the Jamboree started with an easy drive, giving drivers a chance to gain experience on the easy sand, learning the basics and gaining confidence. With a bit of experience under their belts, attendees were then slowly introduced to more and more challenging dunes.

By the time participants reached their destination, Net Tours had opened a buffet and lunch was served to all participants and their families. There was plenty of entertainment including a magic show, games for the children, adult games and henna for the ladies. A DJ added even more entertainment. The day’s raffle drawing offered a first prize plane ticket from Swiss Air (Dubai/Zurich/Dubai). Second prize was a navigation system. Third prize was a free Jeep service.

The marshaling crew was as helpful and professional as ever, assisting newbies on the terrain and demonstrating the Emirates Jeep Club’s hardcore Jeeps. Visit the Emirates Jeep Club online for more information.
